Tacspiel: The American Army's War Game of the Vietnam War
By Daniel Parker, Lawrence J. Dondero, Norman W. Parsons, Perry F. Narten · Art by (Uncredited)
User Summary: A map based wargame, intended to be played by opposing teams and refereed by a team of umpires, developed and adopted by the US Army as a training tool for guerrilla and counter-guerrilla operations in a jungle or densely forested environment. Teams are in separated rooms, and assign orders to company or platoon sized units in 6-hours time increments. The umpires work out the eventual detections, contacts and battles resulting from the teams' orders. Several tables are provided for time periods expended on movement, and detection and contact probabilities based on the terrain. Combat is resolved on a combat result table, with percentages of inflicting casualties depending on combat odds ratio.
