The Ringbearer

By Dan Bress, Überplay · Art by Berwick's Toy Co. Ltd.

The Ringbearer - a wargame in which 4 - 10 players use dice and old-time school fantasy miniatures to either capture the "Great Ring" for the forces of evil, or destroy it by delivering it to the "Crack of Darkness". A game master is required and they create the play area by placing miniature terrain. Movement allowances are determined each turn by rolling dice; the number of dice used depends on the terrain and the unit being moved. There are two different combat systems, one for armies and one for individuals. There are special rules for things such as Gandalf's return if he is killed, ent activation, and the activities of various individuals. Per a review by Lewis Pulsipher in Games & Puzzles #63 there were at least two editions of the game from Little Soldier. The second edition removed most of the specific references to characters and places from The Lord of the Rings.
