Sacred Hedge

By James Hunwicke

At Waterloo a battle within a battle raged all day. The struggle for the Farm at La Haye Sainte was key to Wellington's defence, it had to hold or the centre would be broken. Sacred Hedge recreates the events at the farm of La Haye Sainte on that fateful day, 18th June 1815. Players take the role of either the French, launching multiple attacks on the Farm and it's Orchard, or the Anglo-German-Dutch committed to a staunch defence of the strong-point under the command of Major Baring. Players fight, using an asymmetric combat table, for control of the orchard, the courtyard and all of the farm buildings. All significant commanders from both sides are represented and the game mechanics use a Glory system similar to that found in Limits of Glory, though adapted to the specific nature of the fighting around the farm. The game is highly interactive for both players, whether defending or attacking, there is plenty to think about and there are multiple decision points each turn. Sub-Commanders, barricades, ammunition, engineers, fires, off map bombardment and reinforcements are all factors to be considered during play by both players. Victory is obtained by control of the Farmhouse and its surrounding structures, but will it be in time to win or lose the battle raging around this battle within a battle? —description from the publisher
