Board Game
Sazaedo
By 外鴨 なきく (Sotogamo Nakiku)
Under the watchful eye of the “trick-taking police,” players carefully place cards while trying not to break the rules of following suit. The game evokes the tension of moving through a spiral-like structure, where each round layers new numbers over old ones and every step may trigger an unexpected scoring moment. Sazaedo is a must-follow card game that looks like a trick-taking game, but is not actually a trick-taking game. Players play cards according to must-follow conditions. On the second cycle, cards are placed on top of cards from the first cycle, overwriting their values. When a player can no longer follow the required condition, scoring is triggered. The winner of that scoring is determined according to the active scoring condition. Players repeat this process until someone has emptied both their hand and the deck, then the winner is determined. The core of the game is reading when scoring will happen and deciding how to manage the layered card values before someone is unable to follow.
