Heirs of Canute
By Ray Briggs
During his reign King Canute conquered England and then Denmark and Norway, thereby forging a mighty empire around the North Sea and becoming one of the pre-eminent rulers in Europe. On his death in 1035 his empire fragmented and his heirs and former enemies fought for control. In this game, players take the role of the leaders of the four families in contention for this great prize. The Godwins in England, either directly or through the kings they controlled; the descendants of St Olaf in Norway; the relatives and descendants of Canute in Denmark; and the Dukes of Normandy. By using diplomacy, intrigue and military might, can you build an empire that rivals that of Canute? —description from the publisher
