By Lê Gia Bảo
1881: On the Rail to Stability is an 18xx game set during the French colonial period and the development of modern Vietnam, spanning roughly from 1880 to the present day. Players take on the roles of investors and railway barons competing to build, finance, and control a network of railways, mining companies, and colonial concessions across the country. The game consist of multiple Stock Round and Operating Round. During Stock Round player will perform financial operation where they can open new company, buy shares, sell shares, and more. During Operating round, the companies that are operated will go into operation. The winner will be the one with the most valuable assets. This game is not a historically accurate representation of the era, either economically or geographically. However, it borrows elements from history to allow players to explore the development of Vietnam’s railway network. —description from the designer
