SE!ZE

SE!ZE is a fast-playing two-player abstract game primarily based on ideas and themes from chess, chequers and tafl. It is played on an 8x8 chequerboard with the corner squares removed. Each player has eight pieces (totalling 16, 'seize' in French), six guards and two captains, that start in the centre of the board. Guards can move one space, captains move two, but there are power-up spaces that give pieces extra ways to move. The aim is to seize the four marked spaces in the centre of the board (occupied by the four captains at the start of the game), or capture both the opposing captains, or reduce the opponent's forces to two pieces. Capture is by trapping an opposing piece between two of yours, as in tafl. The design is a collaboration between James Wallis and F1 driver Charles Leclerc. It was created as part of the promotion for Chivas Regal's whisky '16', also a collaboration with Charles Leclerc.
