Blitzkrieg in the West 1940: 10 Scenarios for Wargamers – Gembloux
By Michael Krause · Art by Michael Krause
These 10 wargame scenarios feature the battles in the Gembloux Gap on the plains of Belgium. This gap represented the fastest way for the Germans to move through Belgium after crossing the Meuse north of Liege and so the French moved their Cavalry Corps forward to fight a covering force action to buy time to establish a strong defensive position on an alignment through Gembloux. These troops were the best in the French Army, well trained and well equipped. and with high morale. Confronting them was the XVI Panzer Korps of 3rd and 4th Panzer Division. These were two of the largest panzer divisions in terms of tank numbers, but their light companies were still equipped with Pz I and Pz II, putting them at a technical disadvantage against the French armour. Their superb training and experience redressed the balance somewhat, and made the actions in the gap a very even contest. This also makes them great for wargaming. These scenarios cover both the cavalry actions in front of Gembloux and and also the tough infantry fights on the Gembloux Line. These scenarios have detailed maps and organisations for battles and are designed for wargamers who enjoy their history as much as their gaming. All scenarios include the actual map from 1940, accurate forces and real battles. These are highly detailed and well researched games. —description from the publisher
