Board Game
Yap
By Jacob Landrum
Is there anything better than spending time with friends over a campfire, not a care in the world, yapping about anything and everything while playing a breezy, but just a little mean, card game? That's what Yap is all about. Yap is a 2-4 player card game that combines the gameplay flow of the standard deck classics Yaniv and Jhyap with the mechanics of climbing and shedding games like Haggis and Crisps and that echo of timelessness one gets from a game like Gin Rummy. Each round, players will discard cards with the goal of getting their hand to be worth less than the threshold to declare Yap! The cards discarded must be of a higher rank or more cards. Over the course of play, the threshold each player needs to go out may also change. The first player to start their turn at or below their threshold can declare Yap and win the round! The other players score points for the cards left in their hands, and in this game, less is best. Be warned though. If a player has less points in hand than the one who declared Yap, the declarer gets penalized!
