Battle of the Coral Sea May, 1942. Only five months earlier, the Kido Butai launched an overwhelming attack on Pearl Harbor. The Japanese sunk four battleships, damaged four, destroyed 188 aircraft, and killed 2000 sailors and a hundred Marines. Since then, the Empire of the Rising Sun has expanded almost without resistance. Now, intelligence intercepts indicate a Japanese invasion of Port Moresbey. The only two aircraft carriers available to the Allies to stop this advance are the Yorktown and the Lexington. The Hornet and the Enterprise are still returning from the Doolittle raid on Tokyo. Will you be able to stop the Japanese? Game play of this version of the Combat Boots Underway is a tactical naval board game that deals with the interplay between aircraft and ships. Players take turns via IGO-UGO phases, moving units one at a time. There are possible reaction moves. There is a map board where hexes are 100 miles across and a tactical board where the scale drops to 7 miles per hex. Ships are rated for Range, Speed, Anti-Air , Anti-sub, Surface action ability and survivability. Planes are rated for Maneuver, Armament Firepower, Speed and Survivability.
