North of Kursk: The Russian Kutuzov Offensive – July 12, 1943
By Perry Moore
North of Kursk covers the dramatic Russian offensive just after the German Kursk offensive had failed on the 10th. Beginning on the 12th, the Russian offensive included five armies and six tank corps against a German force that had yet to see any Kursk action north of Orel. As the Germans were focused on the Kursk offensive and the German advance towards Ponyri, the Russians quietly prepared. When launched, the Kutuzov Offensive attacked from three different areas and by the 16th, the 11th Gds Army had made a serious hole in the far north while the 3rd Army had caused concern towards Orel from the east. The Germans would eventually shift five panzer divisions from the Kursk salient north to hold off the Russian breakthroughs! Even their heavy AFV units moved north to hold Orel at all costs! Each turn is 1 day, 4 mile hexes, units are regiment\divisions. A unique combat system using unit proficiency and morale that determines its combat strength. 280 counters, 11x17 map. —description from the publisher
