Board Game
しのぶれど (Shinoburedo)
By Yousei Azuma
In the quiet elegance of the court, power hides in subtlety. Shinoburedo places players in a struggle of veiled intentions, each trying to avoid winning tricks, lest they suffer dishonor (and penalty points). But a mysterious Secret Scroll changes hands during the game, granting protection from punishment… if you can seize it without being too obvious. Strategy lies not in dominance, but in restraint. Shinoburedo is a trick-avoidance game with unique clash mechanics. Players seek to avoid taking tricks, which cause penalties — unless they end the round holding the Secret Scroll, which nullifies the punishment. However, matching numbers in a trick activate Tōbuku (討伏): earlier-played matching cards are flipped face-down and become ineligible to win, but still count against the player who collects them, increasing their penalty.
