Sveaborg Viapori 1855
By Marco Campari · Art by Marco Campari
Sveaborg Viapori 1855 is a solitaire war game depicting the bombardment of the Russian fortress of Sveaborg-Viapori (in front of actual Helsinki) in 1855 by the Allied Navies of Great Britain and France during the Crimean War. It was one of the most import events of the war in the Baltic Sea, and the objective of the British Admiral Dundas was to blow an hit to the Russian pride and gain some advantage at home, cheering the crowds and pleasing the Queen Victoria with an humbling victory. In three days the Allied fleet bombed the fortress, deployed on 6 islands, burning some of them but actually without leaving too much damage; the Russian barely answered to the fire, but a more aggressive Russian commandant would have the opportunity to score some hits. You are in command of the Allied fleet; will you be able to burn all the fortress and get knighted by the Queen? Or you will loose ships and honour? —description from the publisher
