Squirrel Nation
By Bryan Johnson · Art by Ian Johnson
Squirrel Nation is a family card game for 3-4 players. In the game, players compete to build the happiest and most well-fed community of squirrels in the city park. To succeed, you will need to overcome many threats to your community such as a tree-destroying woodpecker, a trash-devouring raccoon, acorn-stealing chipmunks, and one very hungry owl! A game of Squirrel Nation is made up of rounds where players bid using acorns to take columns of cards from a 3x3 grid (3 players) or 4x3 grid (4 players). In a "once-around" round of open bidding, the players select a column of cards, going from highest to lowest bidder. Most cards will be beneficial by adding squirrels, trees and food to your community. Many squirrels come with special actions or abilities, such as adding trees or acorns to your community. However, dangers lurk! Other critters have their own agenda that may get in the way of your plans. The game ends after 6 rounds of play. Any squirrels not in a tree run away. All other squirrels are worth points based on how many Food cards you have of their preferred food type (Walnuts, Seeds or Peanuts). Highest score is the winner. -description from designer
