Expansion
Rhodesian Railways
By John Bohrer
From Capetown to Salisbury, from Durban to Walvis Bay, the railroads of Africa spanned a continent of jungles, deserts, veldt, swamps and mountains. German SouthWestAfrica, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, Bechuanaland, Mozambique, Natal and Rhodesia are the scope of this luckless economic game where the most money at the end of the game wins. Ports are crucial to start a railroad, penetrating the terrain is expensive & difficult. Business interests drive players inland in this game for 3-5 players for about one hour. Loans are taken for intensive capital investment, with the game ending when one player has expended all their cubes. Historically, the Dutch, Portuguese, Germans and British drove the development of this region, each with varying success. Rhodesian Railways is the third game using Winsome’s Regional Railways System. The prior two games were Balkan Railways and Iberian Railways.
