With this intention, he leaves the city at the head of his 7th Army Corps with more than 20,000 men, 1,500 horses and some artillery. The Spanish block the crossing of the Llobregat river at the Carlos III bridge in the town of Molins de Rei with about 15,000 men and good and abundant artillery, thinking that it will be through that place where the French will try to cross the river. In reality the Imperials have crossed much further south and surprise the Spanish on the other side of the river.
