Cohorts: Battles of Imperial Rome
By Victor Barone
Cohorts is a wargame system to land battles in Imperial Rome on 6mm to 20mm scale. The basic fighting unit is a Century (Rome) and a Unit (Gauls, Germans, and Britons). These are grouped into Cohorts and Bands. Turns are performed by alternate activation. Basic unit types are: infantry, cavalry, artillery (Scorpion), and special units (Nobles, Skirmishers, Chariots, Fanatics). The objective is to provide an easy, agile, and adaptable rules system for the simulation of combat in the historical period between 200 BC and 200 AD, especially the period of Roman conquests over central Europe and Brittany. The main temporal focus is the Gallic Wars. The definitions of a range of weapons were based on historical sources and serious publications. Likewise, the rules for combat formations and the historical characteristics of each army were also the target of research in specialized bibliography on the subject. —description from the publisher
