Eagles Over Britain: Battle of Britain, 1940

By Yu-Hao Bai · Art by Yu-Hao Bai

Eagles over Britain is a strategical game portraying the aerial struggle over the English Channel and Britain during August 1940, the height of Luftwaffe’s Adlerangriff (Eagle Attack) which aims to systematically destroy RAF Fighter Command’s capabilities. The game incorporates a level of double blind mechanics, the box should be assembled as a screen and the British player can keep the deployment RAF’s fighter squadrons in secret. Still, even after take-off (placing unit on the game map), both player’s units are kept on the hidden side until spotted, and players should use this as an advantage for deception. Combat mechanics are kept simple for this mini-game to be played smoothly, and the players can focus on the strategic choices: attack the factories to hinder Fighter Command’s ability to recover from losses, or to conduct airfield raids to secure superiority over London? Keeping the fighters in reserve to defend London, or to intercept Luftwaffe over the Channel? The players are free to experiment with different strategies in this quick playing game.
