Polemos: Ruse de Guerre
By Glenn Pearce · Art by Sven Lugar
A set of tabletop miniatures wargame rules covering the wars in the United States and Canada in the latter half of C18 and the early C19: the French & Indian Wars, the American Revolution/American War of Independence and the War of 1812. Sharing some features with the other rules using the Polemos system, the rules aim to focus on the decisions made by army commanders whilst using quite simple processes to deal with the details of movement, combat and morale, hopefully producing plausible outcomes without the need to do slow or complicated calculations. The heart of the system is about bidding for and using Tempo Points: commanders must trade off speed of action against the ability to have greater control over all units. The game includes a number of scenarios from the three covered conflicts to give players a good idea of how big the various armies are and how they are organized. It uses a variable scale, so smaller and bigger armies, battles and tables can all be accomodated.
