Gladius et Sarissa: Cynoscephalae, 197 BC
By Michael K. Ng
This simulation covers the Battle of Cynoscephalae, a classic battle between the Roman manipular legion and a Hellenistic force descended from the army of Alexander the Great. The battle was the result of heavy skirmishing and both sides quickly rushed reinforcements to the scene. Therefore, at the beginning of the simulation there are no fixed positions except for your skirmishers. Alternatively, you may wish to try your hand at the turning point of the battle and see if you repeat or change history. Historically, the Romans won this battle after heavy fighting but can you recreate history or will you lead the forces of Philip V to victory over Rome?
