MP44: The Capture of Fort Eban Emael

By Edward M. Ainsworth, Stephen V. Cole · Art by Stephen V. Cole

This expansion for the tactical WWII game MP44 was published in issue #2 of JagdPanther magazine. It includes a hex map representing Fort Eben-Emael (misspelled as Eban in the rules). The expansion adds rules covering bunkers, cupolas, and determining the landing location of parachutists. The German forces consist of up to 11 squads of Para-Engineers. The number of German squads that actually arrive is randomly determined at the start of the game. Belgian units may emerge from the fortifications starting on the fourth turn of the game, although this is determined randomly on that turn and each turn thereafter. The German player scores victory points for destroying bunkers and cupolas. The Belgian player scores victory points for destroying German squads. The game lasts 15 turns. Balance may be a recognized issue, as the rules conclude with the statement: "Germans oughta win." The Capture of Fort Eban Emael is currently available in PDF format as Amarillo Design Bureau has digitally rereleased all issues of JagdPanther magazine. —user summary
