Codeword Thunderclap
By Ty Bomba · Art by Tadatoshi Jimbo
Codeword Thunderclap (CTC) is a strategic-level two-player wargame of low-intermediate complexity that covers the climactic fighting in and near Stalingrad from November 1942 through March 1943. The game’s sub-systems are crafted to present a supreme-commander’s-eye-view: it is almost fully strategic in its perspective, with only the most pastel of operational undertones added to enhance historical tone and texture. Each hex on the map represents 16 miles (26 km) from side to opposite side. Each full turn of play represents one-third of a month of ‘real time.’ Units of maneuver are corps and armies or their ad hoc emergency unit equivalents. Command Magazine Japan #143 in October 2018.
