Board Game
Debacle: Dutch East Indies and Malaya 1941-42
By Lou Coatney · Art by Lou Coatney
Abstracted land, sea, and air game. 9-day turns, so a normal 8Dec41-6Mar42game is 10 turns, although the game can be shortened by an even earlier Japanese victory or lengthened by a stubborn, crafty Allied/ABDA defense. Individual battleships and carriers, otherwise usually 2-cruiser, 4-destroyer and 6-transport divisions, air squadrons, and regiment or brigade size land units. As in Desert Campaign for tanks, air-to-air combat determined by aircraft type matrix - not factors. Also, a simple but elegant ground combat system enabling the attacker to risk greater losses to win. Unknown Dutch secret airfields and secondary Dutch ground unit strengths aid solitaire playability. Concealed (until contacted/exposed) and dummy units for deception and bluffing. —description from the publisher
