Board Game
Monopoly: Desi
By Gurdip Ahluwalia
Monopoly Desi is the Indianised version of regular Monopoly. Players get to travel from Broadway in Southall, to the city’s Nehru Centre, stopping en route at Kiribati - all places associated with the Asian community in the UK. Cutting a wider migratory map, the other important halts in the game’s four main travel squares include several Indian destinations such as New Delhi Station, Shivaji Chattrapati Station in Mumbai, Chennai’s Central Station and the Howrah station in Kolkata. Some of these zones even carry adverts on the expatriate tribe, Pataks curry pastes, Asian NGOs and, even one for an Indian cable TV.
