Board Game
Star Trek: "Risk is Our Business"
By Stephen Baker
Star Trek: "Risk is Our Business" is a fan-made strategy board game based on the gameplay of "Risk: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Edition."2-4 players play as two teams, the Federation Alliance and the Dominion, and battle for control of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. The goal of the game is for one team to capture all 64 territories. Gameplay is affected by action cards and territory card turn-ins. During gameplay, players will decide if they want to play as the Federation Alliance or the Dominion. Each player will start with a certain number of units, based on the number of players. Using cards and personal choice, players will take control of territories on the map by placing one of their units in a territory. After taking control of territories, each player will reinforce their territories with their remaining units. Players will also place two "Flagships," or game pieces that modify attack and defensive rolls. At the beginning of each players turn, they will get a chance to recruit reinforcements based on territory card turn-ins, number of territories controlled and region bonuses, based on the fact if a player controls an entire "region" or not. These additional units can be placed in territories controlled by the recruiting player. During the combat phase of each player's turn, the player will move units from territories he/she controls and attempt to conquer territories controlled by the other team. Combat is decided by dice rolls. Attackers gets to roll three dice, while defenders get to roll two. There are territories that have special defensive advantages called Starbases. Combat can also be modified by special Action Cards. After combat, players will get a chance to make one fleet redeployment from one territory they control to another, as long as they are connected by other territories controlled by that player. The object of the game is for one team to conquer the entire 64-territory map. Usually gameplay will pass from one team to another (Federation Alliance player to Dominion Player to Federation Alliance Player, etc).
